Great article. Developing capacity for joy is active living. Seeking or just receiving pleasure is a more passive life. As we age we hopefully learn how to shift from seeking pleasure to increasing our capacity for joy instead. This is what Buddhist practice is all about for me. In my early life, though, I used my Buddhist practice to unabashedly pursue pleasure. It didn’t really matter though; I was still able to “burn the firewood of desire” to reveal enlightenment.
