“Most of us are only looking in each other’s eyes to see our reflection in them.”

Reminds me of a poem I wrote soon after first dating in High School:

The Love Song Of Dr Seuss

I only know you
When I see you in me
So we’re really not sharing
But just trying to see
If this endless barrage
Of mentality
Will ever live up
To what love ought to be

Thank you so much for this article. Having just “survived” the break up of my second marriage due to the wife’s cheating, I have had cathartic revelations as you describe so eloquently. The problem I am facing, though, is that I am trying to love on the terms you accept now, but that most women are simply to committed to the Standard Romantic Narrative for me to get involved with them without hurting them when they realize that I am just someONE and not THE one for them.
